With the Indianapolis Colts in their bye week, we take a look at the 2025 NFL draft with Pro Football Focus' top tight ends.
Addressing the tight end position will be the Colts' top priority this offseason. This is a position that the Colts have been able to get very little out of in the passing game.
Before the Week 13 game against New England, the Colts' tight end room had totaled 26 receptions for 299 yards with two scores.
Alie-Cox is currently the leading receiving option in the room with 132 yards and a touchdown.
For comparison, prior to last week's game, there were 28 individual tight ends who had more receptions than the Colts' entire tight end room and 25 who had more receiving yards.
That being said, blocking is another key component to playing the position, but the Colts were far from down on the ground by the Patriots game, as Jonathan Taylor has averaged 2.9 yards per carry since Week 9 without factoring in the 58-yard run against Buffalo .
To state the obvious: These run game issues certainly don't just affect the tight end position; The offensive line has struggled, but if the running game isn't effective and there aren't consistent contributions in the passing game, then there just isn't much production from that position.
Especially for a team that uses two tight end sets as often as the Colts, the offense is at a numerical disadvantage when there are virtually no factors in the passing game at the position.
More support in the passing game from this position is a must, but to best fit with Shane Steichen's offense, the Colts will ideally add one or two versatile players to this room to impact both the running and passing games, plus additional Versatility and unpredictability of the offense can bring results.
A tight end with the ability to impact both the running and passing games can unlock a lot for an offense, creating mismatches and increasing versatility, which in turn can open up opportunities for others.
With all of that said, let's take a look at Trevor Sikkema's top tight ends in the 2025 draft class. In parentheses is the player's overall ranking on Sikkema's big board.
