Accordingly, Indianapolis Colts defensive coach Ron Milus and linebackers coach Richard Smith will not return for the 2025 season ESPN's Stephen Holder.
These moves follow the Colts' firing of defensive coordinator Gus Bradley earlier this week as the team begins its search for a new defensive coordinator.
Milus has extensive secondary coaching experience and began his career with Washington during the 1993 season. He has been with the Colts since 2022, when Bradley was signed.
Smith has also been with the Colts since 2022 and previously held that position with the Chargers from 2017 to 2020 and with the Raiders in 2021. Smith also served as the Falcons' defensive coordinator for two seasons.
The issues the Colts have had on the defensive side of the ball affect everyone. As Chris Ballard said Fridayhe didn't create enough competition in the squad, it's also up to the players to implement the game plan, and ultimately Gus Bradley is the one who has to be responsible for this unit, the game manager and game planner.
From the sounds of it, the rest of the defensive coaching staff will remain in place for now, and once a new defensive coordinator is hired, they will decide whether to hire their own staff or retain the current coach.
