Darren Rizzi provided an update Monday on the status of center Erik McCoy, who sat out Sunday's 35-14 win over the Cleveland Browns with a groin injury.
It was his first game back after missing seven games due to the same injury, but here he made things worse.
With the bye week on the horizon, that McCoy “went through a series of tests” and that the team exercised caution in this situation.
He noted that it was positive that the Saints had a week off to rest, but made it clear that McCoy would still be fine.
McCoy's importance cannot be understated when it comes to keeping veteran quarterback Derek Carr upright, and that's something the quarterback paid respect to when meeting with the media the week before the game.
“He can solve problems on the fly, things that no one will ever see, no one will ever know, dealing with the unchecked looks and then winning his matchups,” Carr said. “It’s nice for a QB when he’s there because you know exactly what you’re going to get.”
Expect McCoy to be back at full capacity when the Saints resume their 2024 schedule against the Los Angeles Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for December 1st at 3:05 p.m. CT at Caesars Superdome.
