The New Orleans Saints have been fined a few times this season, and one of them that many fans didn't question was the $11,817 fine levied against Nathan Shepherd for unnecessary roughness after the game against the Los Angeles Chargers was imposed.
Both Shepherd and Chargers center Bradley Bozeman received penalties for unnecessary roughness in the game when Shepherd made a late tackle and roll on Justin Herbert, which was certainly controversial at the very least. Bozeman came in and pushed Shepherd away from Herbert, which ultimately led to the game's tying penalties. Shepherd received a fine shortly afterwards, but this was recently appealed and ultimately resulted in the fine being overturned.
Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan after the fine was also withdrawn. Other Saints staff and players had previously defended Shepherd in the game when it was criticized by media and fans. .
“Here's a guy trying to tackle the quarterback, he's on the ground, he has no idea if the quarterback has the ball or not,” Allen said. “He's just trying to get the quarterback to the ground, so there was nothing malicious about that play.”
