The Buccaneers started the season with a 4-2 record, including a win over the Detroit Lions. Since that win, these two teams seem to have taken two completely different paths. While one team is heading toward a potential Super Bowl berth, the other team is near the bottom of its division.
Could this mean Bucs head coach Todd Bowles ends up on the hot seat?
Bowles was hand-picked by Bruce Arians when he retired to be the Bucs' head coach. At the time, the move was praised for its structure, but this structure is proving increasingly unstable over time. There's no infrastructure bill coming out of Washington DC to fix the problem, but one could come from Jason Licht's office.
Could this be a hasty reaction? Perhaps. What's telling, though, is that something isn't working when a defensive-minded coach has a defense that's ranked 31st in the NFL. Something has to change, be it the message or the roster, and Jason Licht isn't going anywhere, nor should he.
