only 2 big underdog games to choose from

Get rid of the Patriots! Get rid of the Patriots!

That was the H-Bomb theme (favorites by 6.5 points or more) for Week 12, as both Jess Root and I went down with the Patriots.

After losing by just six points to the Rams in Week 11, we both believed that New England could at least hold its own and erase Miami's 7.5 point lead. It wasn't to be, as the Patriots lost by 19.

Who would have thought that the Panthers would not only get the 11 points against the Chiefs, but also be on the verge of winning the game? Perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise, as Kansas City's three-point win was their eighth win by one point this season and third by six points overall.

Meanwhile, the 8-point underdogs Titans defeated the Texans. The other favorite to cover was the Lions (7.5 points), who beat the Colts by 18 points.

With a 2-2 record entering Week 13, the HBomb underdogs are the underdogs with a record of 33-19 and 18 total wins.

So here are the three eligible games, but really only two to choose from because we neglected to make our picks before the Thanksgiving Day game between the Lions and Bears, in which Detroit led by 9.5.

In the end the Bears covered, but that doesn't help us!

That leaves just two more games, including the Black Friday AFC West game between the Chiefs and Raiders.

Here are the two eligible games you can choose from this week:

  • Chiefs -13 vs. Raiders (Friday)
  • Bills -7 vs. 49ers (Sunday night)

Obviously both leave a lot to be desired. Especially with the 49ers because of the uncertainty surrounding injuries, particularly to quarterback Brock Purdy.

Jess was brave two weeks ago and hoped the Jaguars would get the 14 points against the Lions. That didn't go well, but he gets back to double digits and drops the bombshell on Kansas City.

For some crazy reason, I say San Francisco will bounce back and at least keep the game against the Bills close, even after the 49ers lost by 28 points in Green Bay last Sunday.

STANDS AFTER 12 WEEKS

Howard: 8-4 (3 direct hits)

Jess: 7-5 (3 direct hits)
