Takeaways from Los Angeles primetime win

Los Angeles Chargers running back JK Dobbins (27) rushes into the end zone with the go-ahead shot in the fourth quarter of the Week 11 NFL game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Sunday, April 17 . November 2024. The Chargers won 34-27.

Despite the feeling that the Chargers would lose after Herbert's fumble, Jim Harbaugh's team persevered. This was different than the Broncos game – Los Angeles took a 23-0 lead in the fourth quarter and then left Denver behind through soft coverage in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos never got within the score. Los Angeles' win probability never fell below 96% against Denver, but the Chargers turned a 94.6% win probability into a low of just 94.6% at halftime on Sunday 28.3%.

And yet, even though Herbert struggled in the second half and the defense couldn't stop Cincinnati until midway through the fourth quarter, the Chargers clinched the win with Dobbins' run that cut the clock to 18 seconds. Even then, a Burrow “Hail Mary” attempt hit Tee Higgins with both hands at the goal line and required a pass breakup from Derwin James to seal the win.

But a win is a win, and the Chargers have now proven they can win games like this. Things don't have to be perfect. Justin Herbert leads a game-winning drive – his 15th since entering the league. Los Angeles under Jim Harbaugh just wins….
