Despite the feeling that the Chargers would lose after Herbert's fumble, Jim Harbaugh's team persevered. This was different than the Broncos game – Los Angeles took a 23-0 lead in the fourth quarter and then left Denver behind through soft coverage in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos never got within the score. Los Angeles' win probability never fell below 96% against Denver, but the Chargers turned a 94.6% win probability into a low of just 94.6% at halftime on Sunday 28.3%.
And yet, even though Herbert struggled in the second half and the defense couldn't stop Cincinnati until midway through the fourth quarter, the Chargers clinched the win with Dobbins' run that cut the clock to 18 seconds. Even then, a Burrow “Hail Mary” attempt hit Tee Higgins with both hands at the goal line and required a pass breakup from Derwin James to seal the win.
