Rams select QB Carson Beck in Round 1

Matthew Stafford has shown no signs of regression at age 36 and continues to play at a high level for the Rams this year. But there's no denying that he's rising in age as one of the league's oldest quarterbacks, meaning the Rams need to start thinking about a succession plan.

With two former Georgia Bulldogs already on the quarterback depth chart, could they consider adding a third in the first round of next year's draft? Here's how ESPN's Matt Miller sees Los Angeles shaping up in April.

This week and at No. 18 overall, he has the Rams selecting Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. At one point before this season, Beck was considered a candidate to be the overall quarterback in the class, but his struggles in 2024 have caused his stock to slip.

Beck's talent is certainly there, but turnovers have been a major problem, partly due to his declining accuracy. Here's what Miller wrote about the possibility of Beck ending up in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles could be the beneficiary of the Beck stock decline. Beck threw 12 interceptions and his accuracy suffered as a result And but he has a strong arm, the ability to read the entire field and move upfield. In conversations with scouts this week, the consensus was that Beck could get back into the conversation with a strong finish in the middle of the first round – which is what we expect here given the supply and demand at the position.

At 5-5, the Rams don't appear to be a team that will go into the top 10 of the draft. They are closer to a playoff spot than a top-10 pick, so it will be difficult for them to land the top-ranked quarterback on their board.

However, this is expected to be a weaker quarterback class than usual. Shedeur Sanders moves away as the projected QB1, with Cam Ward also in discussion, but there is no true franchise QB in this class like there was last year with Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.

Beck has the tools to be a productive starter in the NFL and the Rams have the need at the position to take him in the middle of the first round, but there are a lot of risks with this selection.
