Kyle Shanahan explains Brock Purdys early exit from practice

The San Francisco 49ers expect to get quarterback Brock Purdy back for their Week 13 game against the Buffalo Bills. This is where the good injury news ends for San Francisco.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Friday after practice that Purdy was a full participant in practice and is expected to play in Buffalo. Purdy missed Week 12 at Green Bay with a shoulder injury and was limited on Wednesday and Thursday.

Another group of injured starters is not expected to play, putting San Francisco's chances of winning against a top AFC Super Bowl contender in serious jeopardy.

Here is the injury report for Sunday:

Out of

DE Nick Bosa (hip, oblique)
OT Trent Williams (ankle)
LB Dre Greenlaw (Achilles)
CB Deommodore Lenoir (knee)
LG Aaron Banks (concussion)
DT Jordan Elliott (concussion)

Bosa and Williams were also out in Week 12. Lenoir was injured in that game, as were Banks and Elliott. Greenlaw's practice window opened prior to Week 13, but he is still progressing and will not play against the Bills.

Questionable

QB Brock Purdy (shoulder)
WR Chris Conley (knee)
DT Kevin Givens (groin)
LB Demetrius Flanagan-Fowles (knee)
CB Renardo Green (neck)

Purdy's return should be helpful for the 49ers, but the other injuries are so significant that even the starting signal-caller's return may not help enough. Given Elliott's absence, Givens' return would be significant, and Green expects him to start in the starting spot if he plays with Lenoir ruled out.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward is not listed
