There is a question mark for the San Francisco 49ers under center as they head into a crucial game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 12.
quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a right shoulder injury that head coach Kyle Shanahan classified as a “tender” in the team's Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Purdy was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday and Thursday's practices.
He didn't opt in at all on Wednesday for the portion of the drills open to reporters. Reporters on Thursday noted that Purdy made a few easy throws before leaving the field.
Shanahan explained in an interview on KNBR after practice What about the 49ers QB? it's Friday.
“He was still limited today,” Shanahan told host Adam Copeland. “Yesterday he didn’t do as much, but today he did a little more. He went out and did a bit, then went back in about halfway and rested. Hopefully it will be a great feeling on Sunday.”
It's interesting that Shanahan said Purdy left the field to rest. There is no real clarity as to whether this is a maintenance issue for Purdy or whether he is unable to throw.
If the former, he should be on track to play in Green Bay on Sunday. If the latter is the case, the team could end up using backup quarterback Brandon Allen in the biggest game of the season.
Friday probably won't bring much clarity unless Purdy practices fully and isn't on the injury report. He could also be classified as 'questionable', which could result in the question mark remaining until the inactivity is announced 90 minutes before kick-off.
