Well, here's one you don't see every day…and one of those Minnesota Wild have never seen before. goalie Filip Gustavsson scored the extremely rare goalie goal in the final moments of the Wild's 4-1 victory over the blues. It is the first goalkeeper goal in Wild history.
The Wild were on a power play and the Blues had cleared their net, but details matter little when you're doing something as magical as this, and Gustavsson's teammates responded accordingly. Unsurprisingly, it is his first career goal.
He is only the 15th goalkeeper to ever score a goal. It is also the 18th goaltending goal of all time (including postseason) and the first since Tristan Jarry Last season. It is also only the third goal by a goalkeeper on a power play.
Gustavsson, 26, was drafted by the Penguins in 2016, but didn't make his NHL debut until 2021 with the Senatorsand he came to the Wild via trade in 2022. He struggled last year after a strong debut season in Minnesota, but now he has an unforgettable moment and a piece of Wild history all to himself.
