FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin is set to undergo hip surgery and will be out four to six months, putting the season in jeopardy for the 32-year-old, who is now dealing with the second serious hip injury of his career.

Seguin will undergo surgery to repair an impingement and labrum in his left hip, the team announced Wednesday. The operation is scheduled for Thursday.

The six-time All-Star missed all but three games of the 2020-21 season after a similar operation on his right hip. During this absence, Seguin also underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

Seguin tried to endure hip pain during Canada's playoff bubble in 2020, when the Stars reached the Stanley Cup Final before losing to Tampa Bay.

He played in 19 of the first 23 games this season and is third on the team with 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists). The Stars placed Seguin on injured reserve after one year 3-1 win over Winnipeg on Sunday.

Seguin played in 81 games in his first season after right hip surgery and didn't miss any of Dallas' playoff games in their run to the Western Conference finals in the last two seasons.

After winning the Stanley Cup title with Boston as a rookie in 2010-11, Seguin spent two more seasons with Boston before moving to Dallas in 2013.

Seguin averaged 34 goals and 43 assists per season in his first six years with the Stars and signed an eight-year, $78.8 million extension in 2019. The contract runs for two more years.
