Coleen revealed a rather surprising side to her husband on Thursday nights show

Wayne Rooney gives Romeo Montague a run for his money when his wife Coleen reveals he writes her love poems.

Coleen said her husband, Manchester United's record goalscorer, showed a perhaps surprisingly romantic side during his appearance on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Speaking to fellow camper GK Barry on Thursday night's episode, Coleen said: “Wayne always wrote me poems.”

A shocked Barry replied: “Wayne Rooney?”

Coleen replied: “You know the hotel blocks? He would always write a little poem, put it in his pocket and give it to me when we got home.”

Coleen later added: “It's nice to keep them but I can't remember the last time he gave me one…”

And in the Bush Telegraph Coleen says: “He's romantic in a way, we're not the lovey-dovey couple in public but little things like that I think keep the relationship alive and it's special when someone does something just for you did.” and the words mean something.”

Wayne and Coleen first met as teenagers, during his first spell at boyhood club Everton.

The couple got engaged when they were 18 and 17 before tying the knot in June 2008. Wayne and Coleen were 22 years old at the time. They have four children together – sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.

However, their relationship was not without its challenges, as their romantic relationships were thrust into the spotlight at a young age and Wayne's past indiscretions attracted a lot of media attention.

Coleen said earlier in the episode: “He just wanted to play football, he struggled with fame, he hated it.”

“If he could have just played football and not had so much fame, I think he would have been happier in life.”

“He made mistakes along the way, but of course when you’re 16 you’re going to do that, that’s life.”

Coleen added: “Ever since the first mistake he made became public knowledge, people have not forgiven him.

“When something happened, the public wanted it to just go, oh, divide, you know, that's it, divide them. But the fact is there was still love.”

“It was difficult, but now, after all these years, we are happy… we are a team.”

While Coleen is away in the Australian jungle, Wayne continues his role as Plymouth Argyle boss.

The Devon-based side are currently 18th in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone.
