Christian Horner was not happy after Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was embarrassed by Franco Colapinto in the Qatar Grand Prix sprint.
The young Argentine has caught the eye since replacing Logan Sargeant with Red Bull reportedly interested.
However, in Lusail he caught Mexican star Perez sleeping.
Colapinto started last and in the pit lane with Perez as both teams modified their cars in parc ferme.
But when the lights went out on Saturday afternoon, the Red Bull star seemed to forget he was even racing.
When the light turned green, he sat still and allowed the newcomer Colapinto to quickly overtake his experienced opponent.
He also held the position and finished 18th, while Perez came last.
And the incident did not go down well with Red Bull team boss Horner.
“I have to talk to him about it because it looked like he was caught sleeping a bit and obviously Colapinto was ahead,” he told the official F1 channel.
Meanwhile, speaking to Sky F1, he added: “I honestly don’t know.
“I have to talk to him about it. It looked like he just misjudged it.
“But when the lights go out, you should leave.”
“We managed to get some useful data from Checo in this race,” added Horner.
“We also managed to change the nose, so we got some good feedback that we can hopefully use [qualifying].”
“Basically, on a day when we didn't want to score points with him, it was better to gather as much knowledge as possible,” he explained.
“So that’s what we did. We now have some data to look at before the next meeting, so hopefully we can put it to good use.”
Perez himself, whose position at Red Bull is in serious jeopardy due to a lack of performance, insisted he wanted clear air in front of him as he looked for data that could help the team.
“The main goal today was to be as far back as possible and have as much clean air as possible,” he said after the sprint. “That was the goal.
“I think we've managed to understand the car with the changes we've made. I think there is still room for improvement in what we need to do in the future.
“We have to try to give the car a little more balance.”
But Colapinto himself was happy to catch Perez sleeping.
He joked: “Checo was… I don't know, he was looking at the traffic lights or something. He tried to get in first, sometimes he’s a little late to the first one, you know?”
