talkSPORT understands Chelsea legend Lampard is the leading candidate to take charge at the CBS Arena.

King did not elaborate on how good Lampard's chances of getting the job were, but admitted the former England, West Ham and Manchester City midfielder is a contender.

“We have received a lot of CVs from highly qualified people, including Frank,” King told Sky Sports.

“We haven’t done anything in that process… but we are clearly in the international break and we will assess everything.”

“We will find out who is shortlisted and go from there.”

Lampard has been unemployed since ending his term as Chelsea's interim manager in 2023.

He took charge at Stamford Bridge for the second time following the sacking of Graham Potter.

Lampard's last permanent role was at Everton.

He was released by the Toffees in January last year and left the club in 19th place in the Premier League at the time of his departure.

The former Chelsea star took charge of 44 games and oversaw 24 defeats, 12 wins and eight draws.

His win ratio of 27.91 made him the second worst Everton manager of all time.

He led the team to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and to the FA Cup final that season, where Chelsea lost to Arsenal at Wembley.

After 18 months as manager, he was sacked by the club with which he had won the Premier League as a player.

This came after the Blues suffered five defeats in their last eight league games.

At the time, then-owner Roman Abramovich said Lampard's status as a “major icon” at the club “remained undiminished” despite his sacking.

Lampard's first attempt as a manager came in the 2018/19 season at Derby, where he managed 57 games, winning 24, drawing 17 and losing 16.

The Rams missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, but Lampard's managerial debut led to Chelsea signing him in the summer.

It was him with former club West Ham.

Now he could write a new chapter with another second division club, Coventry.

After seven years and 244 days as coach of the Sky Blues, the Englishman was the third oldest coach in English football – after Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Simon Weaver of Harrogate Town.

Ironically, the final straw for the Coventry board came after a 2-1 home defeat to Lampard's former club Derby.

The Sky Blues have started to see their fortunes change after picking up a point away to league leaders Sunderland on Saturday.

Rhys Carr has been given the role of interim head coach until a permanent successor is chosen.
