Aston Villa will back Man City in voting against changes to APT rules

Aston Villa owner Nassef Sawiris said the club would join Manchester City in voting against the Premier League's proposed changes to commercial dealing rules.

Top clubs will vote on changes to the Associated Party Transaction Regulations (APTs) at a Premier League meeting on Friday.

Sawiris, Egypt's richest man, argued the league needed a “fresh start” and therefore the vote on the APTs should be postponed until February to increase the chances of “unanimous support”.

Manchester City have already written to the 19 other clubs expressing their “fundamental concern” about what they say are “unlawful” proposed changes from the Premier League.

Both in October City and the Premier League claimed victory after an arbitration tribunal's decision on APTs.

In a statement released to the Telegraph, Sawiris confirmed that Villa would vote “against” the APT changes.

“In our view, a vote within 90 days on amended terms and conditions, taking into account the tribunal's findings, will have a significantly greater chance of securing the unanimous support of all 20 Premier League clubs,” he said.
