Julen Lopetegui West Ham United manager not listening to speculation over future

Manager Julen Lopetegui says he is “not listening to speculation” about his future at West Ham after a disappointing start to the season.

Lopetegui, 58, took over management of West Ham in the summer, Successor to David Moyes, but has only won three Premier League games.

The Hammers are 14th in the league and have been kicked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool, with suggestions he could be fired.

“I don’t hear or read what’s being said. I’m really focused,” Lopetegui said.

“My focus is on working as a team and understanding what things can help us be a better team.”

“The rest is out of our control – which means we can work better with high demand, knowing that our players are certainly getting better and also knowing that…” [end of the] The season starts in May, not November, so let’s see what happens in two or three months.”

West Ham reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and finished ninth in the Premier League in Moyes' final season at the club.

Former Spain and Real Madrid coach Lopetegui spent around £125m strengthening his squad in the summer but failed to deliver results.

West Ham return to the Premier League on Monday with a trip to eighth-placed Newcastle.

“Our life is about living under pressure. Our work is like this and that is why we choose this type of work,” said Lopetegui.

“What is more important is that we are working very hard to improve. I think the players have a great commitment to achieve this and I am sure we will reach our level.”

“The only thing I’m concentrating on now is going to Newcastle on Monday and trying to get a good result in a tough game.”
