Serena Williams is on the road to recovery after having a branchial cyst “the size of a small grapefruit” removed from her neck. In a video she posted on social mediaWilliams revealed that the cyst was successfully removed and “everything is fine.”

In the post, Williams revealed that she discovered a lump on her neck in May and had an MRI done shortly after. She was told she didn't need to have it removed immediately, but Williams explained that “it continued to grow.”

Further testing of the cyst revealed that it was negative for cancer, but her doctors told Williams that she should have the cyst removed.

“So I have to remove it. “I’m so grateful and happy that everything worked out and most importantly, I’m healthy,” William said in a video.

William also posted that she is “still recovering but getting better. Health always comes first.”

Williams, 43, announced her retirement from professional tennis in September 2022, shortly before competing at the 2022 US Open. The US Open 2022 was her last Grand Slam tournament.

over the years, Williams secured 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other woman. She also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles with her sister Venus. Williams' last Grand Slam singles title came with victory at the 2017 Australian Open.
