Italian Jannik Sinner has enjoyed the most successful – and eventful – season of his career, dominating men's football as the investigation into his two failed doping tests continues.
The reigning Australian Open and US Open champion who won his seventh title of the season in Shanghai tested positive for Clostebol on Sunday in March.
An independent panel, to which the case was presented by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), confirmed that there was “no fault or negligence” on the part of the 23-year-old Sinner.
It said that the world number one had provided a “credible” explanation and could continue playing.
But the decision that Sinner was not at fault was challenged by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) and appealed to the International court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).
No date has been set for the hearing.
“Whatever happens, I just wish it is resolved as soon as possible,” said 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic.
“This whole case doesn’t help our sport at all.”
