Last week, Denver Broncos Rookie quarterback Bo Nix faced two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. This week, Nix faces another two-time NFL MVP in Patrick Mahomes, who also has three Super Bowl MVPs on his resume.
The Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) host the Broncos (5-4) on Sunday in an AFC West showdown with the nfl's only undefeated team.
“I've obviously been watching him for a long time because he put up really good numbers in college and now he's obviously the best in the league,” Nix said of Mahomes on Wednesday. “Everyone is trying to keep up with him. I feel like everyone is trying to catch up. He does a great job of just being himself, playing within the system and making plays when his team needs him.”
Mahomes had a bit of a down year compared to his usual standards, with 1,942 passing yards and 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions in eight games. Nix has rushed for 1,753 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions in his first nine games in the nfl.
Denver is being considered as a game against a division rival a big outsider this week. Nothing would have wanted it any other way.
“I love it,” Nix said of Sunday’s challenge. “I think that’s the epitome of why you want to play in the NFL. You want to play against these defenses. You want to play against these legendary coaches. You want to play against these Hall of Fame quarterbacks. So I think it's the best. I think if you get to play in a match like that, it's a lot better than maybe playing against a team that you know you have an advantage over.
“So I think it will be fun. It's going to be hard. I think the mindset and attitude that comes with playing a tough game is the most important thing. You want to play in these big games. You want to play the difficult games because if they were all easy, anyone could do it.”
Sunday's game will be televised regionally on CBS (View the TV map).
