The International cricket Council (ICC) is yet to decide on the schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy despite holding a board meeting on Friday.
The competition, scheduled to begin on February 19, is in limbo India's refusal to travel to the host country, Pakistan.
BBC Sport understands the first meeting was “brief” and the board is expected to meet again in the coming days.
Political tensions mean the two countries have not played each other outside major tournaments since 2008 and India has not traveled to Pakistan in 16 years.
However, Pakistan will travel to India for the over-50 World Cup in 2023.
Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has previously rejected the idea of a “hybrid” staging of the tournament, where India plays its matches in another country.
But it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the tournament will take place exclusively in Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy is set to be the first global cricket event hosted by Pakistan since 1996.
