The Miami Dolphins have fired special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and wide receivers coach Wes Welker, the team announced Friday.
“I am grateful to Danny for his contributions and commitment to the Dolphins over many seasons, as well as the many ways he has helped me as a head coach,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said in a statement. “I would also like to thank Wes for his investment here. I did not make this decision lightly, but after evaluating the season and the areas where we need to improve, I am convinced that changes are needed and am motivated to do what is best for the team, as we move forward.”
Crossman, 57, joined the Dolphins in 2019 after previously serving as special teams coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.
Welker, 43, spent three seasons as wide receivers coach in Miami after spending three years in the same role with the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to his coaching career, Welker played wide receiver for the Dolphins for three seasons from 2004 to 2006. He later became one of the NFL's most productive receivers with the New England Patriots and was named to the Pro Bowl five consecutive years between 2008 and 2012.
