The Miami Dolphins placed second-year cornerback Cam Smith on injured reserve, likely ending his season after he suffered a shoulder injury in the team's Thanksgiving loss to the Green Bay Packers.
“His injury was a little more serious,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this week. “I'm discussing ways to attack it but it was a serious injury that will keep him out this week. I know that much.”
Smith, a second-round pick in 2023, will miss at least four games, meaning the earliest he could return is for the team's regular-season finale in Week 18.
Smith's spot on the 53-man roster will be filled by veteran offensive lineman Jackson Carman, who was previously called up from the practice squad three times to play snaps on special teams.
The Dolphins also announced that rookie cornerback Jason Maitre has returned to the team as a member of the practice squad. The 24-year-old Maitre then secured a place in the squad However, he was released by the team at the end of training camp earlier this year . Fellow undrafted rookie Storm Duck earned a spot instead and has started two games for Miami this season.
