Jevón Holland isn't too worried about what will result from his upcoming free agency. The 24-year-old safety could be one of the top players on the open market in March, and if that means he's too expensive for the Miami Dolphins, then so be it.
“I do [want to stay in Miami]but I'm also open to the possibility of being anywhere,” Holland said earlier this week a podcast with NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. “I wouldn’t hate the thought of coming back, I wouldn’t hate the thought of leaving. …I'm really not stressed about anything. Whatever happens in the end will happen for a reason.”
Holland joined the Dolphins as a second-round pick in 2021 and wasted no time establishing himself as a top prospect in Miami's secondary. But after recording five interceptions, four sacks, four forced fumbles and seven tackles for a loss in his first three seasons, Holland had arguably his worst year in 2024.
In his fourth NFL season, Holland finished without an interception, a sack, a forced fumble and two tackles for a loss. Pro Football Focus, which was once called Holland the best free agent of 2025 but has since reset him to number 3 and given security a grade of 63.0 in 2024 – the lowest mark of his career and well below his 90.4 grade in 2023.
Still, Holland is a young player with a track record in the NFL and a leadership role he has earned rave reviews from experienced teammates. It would be a shock if there was no healthy and robust market for Holland.
Miami has a lot of work to do to stay within the salary cap, let alone have the opportunity to make Holland one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL. At least for now, the safety's departure in free agency seems much more likely than unlikely.
