Sid Eudy, known by his wrestling ring names Sid Vicious, Sid Justice and Sycho Sid, has died at the age of 63 due to complications from cancer. His son Gunnar Eudy announced the news on Monday.
Eudy began wrestling in 1987, working in various territories and for New Japan Pro Wrestling before signing with World Championship Wrestling in 1989 under his adopted name Sid Vicious, which was directly inspired by the Sex Pistols bassist of the same name.
At 1.90 meters tall, Eudy had enormous physical presence and was often said to have a natural charisma due to his unique appearance. Due to his size, he worked in a WCW tag team with the 6'3″ Dan Spivey as The Skyscrapers until Eudy was injured and replaced by Mark Callous, the man who would later become The Undertaker in the WWF/WWE.
Eudy was briefly a member of the legendary Four Horsemen stable before moving from WCW to the WWF in 1991 as Sid Justice. Eudy didn't stay with the WWF for long before being released, re-signing with WCW and being released from WCW after a notorious real-life fight with Arn Anderson.
Eudy returned to the WWF in 1995 and was renamed Sycho Sid in 1996. During this time, Eudy won the WWF World Championship twice. This WWF run ended after one of Eudy's many injuries, which required surgery.
After recovering from neck surgery, Eudy wrestled on various independent dates before joining ECW in 1999, where he was used as a dominant force who was rarely asked to do more than powerbomb opponents, but his charisma once again won him over a star with a tough ECW crowd.
Eudy's last notable run came in WCW, when he returned to the promotion in 1999. He then won the US Championship and the WCW World Championship twice. In 2001, Eudy suffered a grotesque injury on the live Sin pay-per-view broadcast when he broke his tibia and fibula after jumping from the second rope.
Eudy made a few wrestling appearances after the injury, but never returned to full-time action.
