The West Indies' domestic one-day tournament ended without a winner after none of the captains showed up for the toss, resulting in a double loss.
Barbados Pride and Jamaica Scorpions were scheduled to play the Super50 Cup final on Sunday in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.
Bad weather reduced the scheduled 50-over game to a 20-over game, but with neither team taking the field due to the late start, the final was abandoned.
cricket West Indies (CWI) said, external No winner would be announced and they would now review the tournament regulations to avoid a repeat.
A statement explained that the final was initially delayed when scattered rain showers began about an hour before the scheduled 1 p.m. start.
“However, at around 5:45 p.m., the game management determined that the game could start at 6:17 p.m. at the latest,” the statement continued. “They informed the players about this and that the toss would take place at 6 p.m.”
“Despite assurances from the umpires and umpire that the conditions for the game were safe, both captains were not present for the toss, resulting in time passing past the final starting point.”
“As a result, both teams failed to enter the pitch and virtually refused to play. This resulted in a double loss without a champion being declared.”
The CWI said the tournament rules stipulated that if the final could not be played, both teams would be declared co-winners. However, because referee Reon King ruled that a match was possible, no winner was announced.
Barbados and Jamaica had reached the final of the month-long, eight-team tournament by finishing in the top four of the league stage before winning their respective semi-finals on November 20.
Barbados defeated the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by 153 runs while Jamaica defeated the Leeward Islands Hurricanes by 107 runs.
