cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the West Indies women's squad for the India tour. West Indies will tour India in December for a white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is. Hayley Matthews will lead the team and Shemaine Campbelle will be her deputy. Experienced all-rounder cricket-players/stafanie-taylor/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Stafanie Taylor will miss the tour as she continues her rehab from an injury.
In the meantime, Deandra Dottin will return to the team. Having played her last ODI in March 2022 and making her T20I comeback two years after announcing her international retirement, Dottin will be keen to make an impact.
Head coach Shane Deitz spoke about how they have tried to attract the attention of Women's Premier League scouts to their players and why the India tour would be a good opportunity.
“We want to get more girls interested in franchise cricket in the future and are looking to India. It's always good to play in front of the Indian IPL teams. It's good for our ladies if they start to get their name out there in front of these people and hopefully that will open up some opportunities for the future,” Deitz was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Deitz also stressed the importance of maintaining momentum after the West Indies recently reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. “We want to carry the good momentum we gained in the T20 World Cup into this series. We showed that we can compete against the top teams, which was pleasing.”
Both teams will open the series with the T20Is, all to be played on December 15, 17 and 19 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The three ODIs will take place on December 22, 24 and 27 at tThe Reliance Stadium in Vadodara.
