New England Patriots linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley stepped in for Jerod Mayo after the Patriots head coach made controversial post-game comments following their Week 12 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
After taking the blame for the defeat, Mayo was asked at what point some of the blame should be shifted to the players.
“Once these guys cross the white lines, there’s nothing I can do for them. Once they cross the white line, no coach can do anything for them.” .
These comments drew a lot of criticism from fans and speakers in the media. Bentley, one of the Patriots 2024 team captains, commented on the issue in a social media post.
“There’s no way you think that’s what he meant,” Bentley posted.
There's no way you think that's what he meant. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

The Patriots and Mayo have been under the microscope all season, as this was the team's first venture in the post-Bill Belichick era. There has been enough criticism, but on this particular issue one of the team's most important leaders stands behind Mayo.
