In a very early 2025 NFL mock draft The Indianapolis Colts are getting some much-needed help at tight end.
With the 15th overall pick in the first round, PFF's Gordon McGuiness has the Colts selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
“Loveland took his game to new levels in 2024, earning a receiving grade of 88.9 PFF,” McGuinness wrote. “He is averaging an impressive 2.84 yards per route run this season and has missed just 3.6% of the catchable targets thrown to him.”
At 6-5, 246 pounds, Loveland has excellent athleticism and would add a missing pass-catching element to the Colts' offense at the tight end position.
During Michigan's 2023 National Championship run, Loveland caught 45 of 62 passes for 14.4 yards per catch while scoring four points. Over half of his snaps ended up lined up in the slot, with another 19 percent coming from the boundary.
His 649 yards this season were the fifth-most at the tight end position, tied with Loveland, who ranked fourth in average YAC and third in yards per route run, a measure of PFF's pass-catching efficiency.
This season, Loveland has taken on a larger role in Michigan's passing game, already having 56 receptions and totaling 582 yards with five touchdowns.
Among all tight ends, Loveland ranks fifth in receptions, eighth in yards and ninth in touchdowns, again coming from the slot for the majority of his snaps.
Loveland is the 20th overall prospect on PFF's Big Board and the highest-rated tight end in the class.
In addition to selecting Loveland, McGuinness also had the Colts get secondary help in Rounds 2 and 3 by taking USC safety Kamari Ramsey at pick 47 and Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson at pick 79 overall.
