Titans’ Tony Pollard may be having ‘his best season’

The Tennessee Titans signed running back Tony Pollard during free agency after losing Derrick Henry to the Baltimore Ravens. Pollard is having a fantastic season, despite some subpar games, and one NFL insider believes he may be having his best season yet.

Brian Baldinger goes through some of Pollard's film and explains how the running back comes down the field, while also showing Pollard's ability to help in pass protection.

“He’s being sheltered here right now, who’s coming? Where can I help?” Baldinger says: “Right here he sees a little color. Plug the leak right there, like a good plumber.” Which Pollard does, giving Will Levis more time to throw the ball.

After showing Pollard turning the corner using the path dictated by his line, Baldinger has perhaps the most telling glitch. It happens in a play where it seems like Pollard has nowhere to go.

“The big guys can create yards when there’s nothing there,” he says, before breaking down a play where Pollard essentially had nowhere to go. There is no hole, there is no way forward. But none of the Houston Texans defenders can get to their feet and Pollard ping-pongs through the line for a 17-yard gain.

Pollard is on pace to record his third straight season with more than 1,000 rushing yards. Add to that his ability to support the offensive line (particularly on the right side), as well as some help in pass protection, and Pollard is definitely having the best season of his career.
