Historian Ramachandra Guha requested that the stands of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium be renamed after former cricket stars. Subsequently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had asked the Karnataka State cricket Association (KSCA) to do the needful. The CM added that the stands of former cricketers Gundappa Vishwanath, Erapalli Prasanna and Bhagwath Chandrasekhar should be named after them.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium will celebrate the golden anniversary of the first Test ever played at the venue. After successfully completing 50 years of hosting numerous international matches, the KSCA has given the go-ahead to Guha and Karnataka CM's requests.

To mark the golden jubilee, the KSCA has decided to name the stands after cricket stars including Syed Kirmani, Brijesh Patel, Roger Binny, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad.

“The most befitting way to mark this historic occasion is to pay tribute to the legends, all of whom have played a crucial role in shaping Indian cricket and also contributed immensely to the game and its growth in our state,” Das said KSCA management in its letter quoted by The Times of India.
“Their remarkable contributions on and off the field are a testament to Karnataka’s rich cricketing heritage. This initiative not only commemorates the stadium's 50 glorious years but also ensures that the memories of these cricket legends are preserved for generations to come,” KSCA added.
