Aaqib Javed, who is Pakistan's newly appointed white-ball coach on an interim basis, came forward and spoke about how the team is completely focused on ODI cricket ahead of the latest edition of the Champions Trophy in 2025. He also spoke about what he wants to observe the team's strengths in the T20I format as well.
It is worth noting that Javed has been appointed as Pakistan's white-ball coach until the end of the Champions Trophy and is ready to fly out with the team for their upcoming assignment against Zimbabwe.
“Right now our main focus is ODI cricket ahead of the Champions Trophy. In this format you will see a well-coordinated team. There will be changes in the T20I format. We plan to give new players opportunities in the Zimbabwe series.” It is a message and an opportunity for the new players to take advantage of the opportunities they have been given. “If you don’t give opportunities to new players, you never get the opportunity to improve your bench strength,” Javed was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Australia has never been an easy tour. If we had gone as a team and we said we would win the series, people would have thought it was impossible. It is interesting to note that Aaqib Javed has enjoyed a historic rise in Pakistan cricket. In the summer of 2024, Javed was Sri Lanka's fast bowling coach and was recently appointed to the Pakistan selection committee.
The PCB also recently came forward and confirmed that Javed will retain his position on the selection committee during his tenure as the white-ball coach. Javed spoke about it and explained the responsibilities as a coach.
“We always consult the coach and the captain and then the selection committee announces the team. From Multan till now there has been a uniform selection. Asad Shafiq was on the Australian tour. His job was to discuss the selection with the coach and captain and come up with a final team which was discussed by the selection committee which takes the final decision,” said Javed.
