NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar Once again he has rubbed a cricketer the wrong way by dragging his name Vinay Kumar unnecessarily in a commentary on live television.
While commentating on the first Test between India and Australia in Perth on Saturday, Manjrekar spoke about the development of fast bowlers in India in the last decade or so and said: “(It was regulated by the board) how much grass you have to have on the surface at the domestic level. But I think that's over.” But what it also did was medium-speed devices like that Vinay Kumars, no disrespect to him, was at the top of the wicket-taking charts because with the grass on the pitch, all they had to do was get the ball in the right area at 120 kmph and they would get wickets.”
Clearly offended, Vinay Kumar wrote on Sunday: “Sanjay Bhai, with all due respect, your speed gun needs urgent maintenance. Pacers like Vinay Kumar have worked really hard to become the first Indian fast bowler to score a hundred IPL Wickets also played for the country in all formats. I'm proud of my bowling. Nevertheless, best wishes and greetings”
Vinay Kumar is one of the most successful captains in Karnataka cricket history and has led the team to multiple national titles. With over 504 wickets in 139 first-class matches and significant contributions with the bat, he is considered a domestic cricket legend and has also represented India in international cricket.
Vinay's 442 Ranji Trophy The wicket total is the highest for a pace bowler and the fourth highest in the history of the tournament.
Vinay took 105 wickets while playing 105 matches for four different clubs in the IPL.
