What you should know
The Rockets have three home games under their belt but will have to take off their away jerseys soon. They will face the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. After a loss in a game the Rockets were expected to win, they now face the more difficult task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.
The Rockets entered this game after oddsmakers set last week's over/under low at 225.5, but even that ended up being too high. They took a 104-98 hit against the Trail Blazers. The duel marked Houston's lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Even though they lost, the Rockets broke the offensive mark and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds (they rank first in offensive rebounds per game overall). This strong performance was nothing new for the team: It has now grabbed at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves suffered their worst loss since February 2 on Sunday. With a score of 107-105, they fell just short of the Celtics. The close game was particularly heartbreaking for Minnesota, which nearly erased a 19-point deficit.
However, the defeat does not tell the whole story as several players had good games. One of the most active players was Anthony Edwards, who shot 6-for-11 from downtown and nearly missed a double-double with 28 points and nine rebounds. He also collected seven assists, the most since April.
Houston's loss ended a seven-game winning streak at home and dropped them to 12-6. This is Minnesota's second straight loss and their season record drops to 8-8.
Tuesday's duel is shaping up to be a tough contest: The Rockets are on the rise this season, averaging 50.2 rebounds per game (overall, they rank first in rebounds per game). Things are different for the Timberwolves, however, as they average just 41.1. Given the Rockets' significant advantage in this area, the Timberwolves must find a way to close this gap.
The Rockets fell to the Timberwolves in their last meeting in April, losing 113-106. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
