What you should know
The Nets and Kings have been evenly matched at 5-5 since November 2019, but not for much longer. The Brooklyn Nets will take on the Sacramento Kings on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. ET at the Golden 1 Center. None of these teams managed to score many points in their previous games, so their offenses may be a little more motivated than usual.
The Nets entered this game after oddsmakers set the over/under low of 214.5 last week, but even that ended up being too high. They suffered a 113-98 loss to the 76ers on Friday.
The Nets' loss came despite strong play from Cameron Johnson, who shot 9-for-13 from long range en route to 37 points. Johnson is trending in the right direction considering he has improved his points total in four straight games.
Meanwhile, the point spread may have been in the Kings' favor last Friday, but the final result was not. The matchup between them and the Clippers wasn't a total blowout, but with the Kings losing 104-88 on the road, it was damn close to being one. The contest was Sacramento's lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The Kings' loss should not obscure the performances of De'Aaron Fox, who scored 29 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, and Domantas Sabonis, who posted a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Fox made it five straight games in which he scored at least 30 points on the night. DeMar DeRozan, on the other hand, was significantly less helpful: He scored 0:5 from distance.
Given the score, it was perhaps unsurprising that the Kings struggled to cooperate, finishing the game with just 19 assists. They were destroyed by their opponents in that department as the Clippers scored 27 points.
Brooklyn's loss was their third straight on the road, dropping their record to 6-10. As for Sacramento, they have been struggling lately as they have lost three of their last four games, putting a significant dent in their 8-8 record this season.
The Nets will be hoping to beat the odds on Sunday as pundits believe they are headed for a loss. Anyone thinking about using them against the spread should keep this in mind: The team hasn't covered the last four games against Sacramento.
The Nets may still be reeling from their devastating 107-77 loss to the Kings when the teams last played in April. This match was all but over at halftime, with the Nets trailing 65-40 at that point.
