In a surprise move, the Seattle Seahawks have made a former Buffalo Bills linebacker available midway through the 2024 NFL season.
The Seahawks (4-5) have relatively. Just the 26 year old signed in Seattle This past offseason, his 2023 season in Buffalo ended and he became a free agent.
Most interestingly, Dodson recorded 71 tackles for the Seahawks defense, a team high, as well as totaling two sacks, two pass breakups and five tackles for a loss… and despite being released, he started all nine games for the Team.
Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald explained that now others would simply get a chance.
“We took a step back and realized where we were,” Macdonald said said about the move. “It was best for us to move forward [without Dodson]. We will give the other one [linebackers] a chance.”
Dodson and Baker, along with Jerome Baker of the Miami Dolphins, were on a similar one-year deal and were expected to replace Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks at linebacker in 2024. This clearly didn't go according to plan, as Dodson is leaving Seattle after Baker had already done so weeks ago.
Depending on the price, Dodson is a name to keep in mind for the Bills' defense.
After the draft, he originally signed with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent, rose through the ranks and had a solid 2023 season before leaving. This shows that the Bills coaching staff certainly believes in the player.
And the linebacker has had a few injuries this year. Baylon Spector (calf) is currently on injured reserve. Matt Milano (knee) was destined to return but it's still weeks away.
And beyond that, Dodson knows the Bills defense has been around for years. He could be destined for Buffalo again.
