New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo always knew it would take more than the 2024 season to establish a winning culture.
The team is 3-9 this season and has suffered two straight losses to the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams. There were challenges on both sides of the ball for New England as they look to rebuild the offense and get a more consistent performance from the defense.
Coaching has also been difficult, as Mayo is still learning the ropes as a first-year NFL head coach.
“I never thought we could re-establish a culture in first grade,” Mayo said, transcribed by. “It's a process. It's hard to change a culture. We're trying to put these pieces together. I think it would be a disservice not to know exactly what we have from a player or coach perspective at the end of the year. That has to be our focus.”
The returns so far in the 2024 campaign have not been the best. Still, there is legitimate hope for the future, starting at quarterback with rookie Drake Maye.
