Patriots sought outside advice for Drake Mayes development

The New England Patriots are putting a lot of emphasis on the development of rookie quarterback Drake Maye this season.

According to a, they even went so far as to enlist outside help in dealing with a young quarterback .

The Patriots were in a similar situation when they used a first-round draft pick on Mac Jones in 2021, and the Alabama product struggled after a standout rookie season.

“They've done some research over the last few weeks on how to handle a young quarterback,” Breer said. “Obviously they failed with Mac Jones from 2021 to 2023. So the Krafts asked people and did their homework on how to properly handle a young quarterback and how they will do that in the future.”

This report shows the Patriots' willingness to do everything they can to ensure Maye's development process goes as smoothly as possible. Time will tell how the rest of the season plays out for the young quarterback.
