Giants’ Brian Daboll won’t relinquish play-calling as season spirals

This New York Giants season had a little bit of everything, so why not a quarterback controversy?

On Friday, head coach Brian Daboll said no decision has been made on who will start at quarterback in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints, Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock.

“We just finished watching this tape,” Daboll said. “We’ll see where we stand. We'll see where Tommy is. We'll see where Drew is. We will make that decision today.”

DeVito was promoted to the starting lineup in place of Daniel Jones two weeks ago against Tampa Bay after the team decided to sit Jones out for the rest of the year. DJ was cut last Friday at his request.

DeVito completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Giants' 30-7 loss to the Bucs. He ran seven times for 32 yards and was sacked four times in the game.

Lock made it to a draw in the Thanksgiving tournament in Dallas after DeVito was sidelined with a forearm injury. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns and ran four times for 57 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown.

Lock also had a sloppy side to his performance, throwing a pick-6 and losing a fumble that set up another Cowboys touchdown.

“We will evaluate the two games that these two guys played,” Daboll added.

“I thought Drew did some good things yesterday. Of course we have to clean up the sales. Losses of the ball that gave the defense seven points and then increased again when we got some points. We have to make sure we take care of the ball. Give our guys on the field a chance to make some plays.”

The Giants are simply unable to muster the necessary momentum this season. Now they can't figure out who their quarterback will be for their next game. What's next?
