Why offense is struggling the last two games

The Washington Commanders' offense is trying to rebound from two subpar performances.

The Commanders have been outscored 39-11 in the fourth quarter in their last three games.

In their last game, a 26-18 loss to the Eagles (8-2), the Commanders generated just 264 offensive yards, an average of 4.2 yards per play.

One of the successes of OC Kliff Kingsbury's offense early in the season was its largely effective conversions on third and fourth downs. However, against the Eagles, the Commanders were only 3-12 on third down.

Jayden Daniels, in particular, failed to get the ball down the field as Terry McLaurin had no reception at all until 10:27 remained in the final quarter. Daniels was noticeably inaccurate more often than not.

Additionally, Daniels only managed 191 yards despite attempting 32 passes. This resulted in Daniels averaging 5.9 yards per attempt, much lower than he had earlier in the season.

The offensive line is banged up but can keep playing. rookie Brandon Coleman had his worst performance in pass blocking over the last two weeks, but then again, he's also playing with a shoulder that isn't at 100 percent. Guard Nick Allegretti and center Tyler Biadasz are playing injured.

Local DMV sports media might consider doing a little more thinking before taking action against Kingsbury, as some have done. They suggest that the Commanders' offense is declining because Kingsbury's offense is declining later in the season.

That may or may not be true with Washington this season. What is undeniably true is that the commanders' offensive is currently struggling and the bye week cannot come soon enough for Washington.

Many players on the offensive team are injured. Consequently, their performance will inevitably decrease. Kingsbury hasn't been one to bounce passes, drop passes or fail to pass over the past two weeks.

Understand that the Steelers and Eagles are both division leaders through Week 11. They are simply better teams than the Commanders at the moment.

Yes, the offense has struggled lately, but injuries to an offensive staff that isn't already one of the league's elite while playing against two quality opponents suggests there will be even more problems.
