The Carolina Panthers have continued an interesting trend.
The team announced this on Monday with outside linebacker Charles Harris. The former first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins was waived to make room for the new addition of cornerback Akayleb Evans, who was taken offline by Carolina this afternoon.
Harris is out after appearing in nine games. He totaled 29 tackles and 3.0 sacks, currently tied for the team lead along with defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson.
So, yeah, the Panthers just got rid of their sack leader. And that decision would be kind of shocking. . . if they hadn't already done it twice.
Harris' departure today marks the third time in 2024 that Carolina has sent away their sack leader. (Yes, that is a real fact.)
They started with Eku Leota, sophomore outside linebacker, on Sept. 17. To that point, Leota's 1.0 sack was the team's best performance through two game weeks.
Then, on October 8th, Defensive lineman Jayden Peevy – who led the unit with 1.5 sacks through five games.
Admittedly, Leota and Peevy aren't exactly big names. And while Harris is a bit better known, his role had diminished with the return of fellow supporter DJ Wonnum.
Nevertheless, it continues.
(Stay alert, A'Shawn.)
