The San Francisco 49ers began their Week 11 practice session with some injury issues that prevented players from fully practicing.
A total of nine players were either absent or had limited attendance. Three were limited and four others missed the first training session of the week due to injuries.
Non-injury absences included cornerback Charvarius Ward and left tackle Trent Williams.
Ward is outside while dealing with a personal tragedy. Williams will get his usual veteran day of rest, although the team is listing him as having an ankle injury in addition to his non-injury rating. The chances are good that Williams will be back in training on Thursday despite an ankle problem.
This is what the participation report from Wednesday looks like:
Didn't participate
DE Nick Bosa (hip)
DT Kevin Givens (groin)
TE George Kittle (hamstring)
P Mitch Wishnowsky (back)
CB Charvarius Ward (not due to injury – personal matter)
LT Trent Williams (ankle, non-injury – resting player)
Givens has missed the last two games and not participating on Wednesday does not bode well for a return in Week 11. Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated before Wednesday's practice that Kittle would not participate but expressed optimism about his availability for Sunday. He was less optimistic for Bosa, who played in Week 10 due to a hip injury he suffered in practice. Wishnowsky's back flared up in Week 10 and the team added a player to its special forces unit.
Limited participation
Full-back Chris Conley (hamstring)
C Jon Feliciano (knee)
RB Christian McCaffrey (Achilles)
There are no surprises here. Conley would provide some depth at WR and Feliciano would provide depth on the O-line. San Francisco could have activated Feliciano off IR last week but chose not to. McCaffrey's limited workouts could become a regular occurrence this season while they treat his Achilles tendon injury.
Full participation
CB Renardo Green (toe)
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
Green played well and left Sunday's game against the Buccaneers with a toe problem. His quick return is good for the 49ers secondary. Gross-Matos was also eligible to return from IR last week but was unable to get fit. A full practice is an optimistic sign that he will return in Week 11.
