BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Sabers defenseman Mattias Samuelsson is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury, coach Lindy Ruff said.
Ruff described the severity of the injury as “pretty severe.” He did not specify the nature but said Samuelsson was unlikely to require surgery.
Samuelsson was injured in a 7-5 loss to Montreal when a Canadiens player rolled on his leg. It was Samuelsson's first game back after missing three times in Ruff's attempt to shake up his squad.
Ruff listed leading scorer Tage Thompson and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as day-to-day players, with both having a chance to play when Buffalo hosts the St. Louis Blues. Thompson did not return to the game after suffering a lower body injury.
Luukkonen started against Montreal despite battling what Ruff called an illness and was substituted after allowing four goals on 18 shots in two periods.
