Only Everton and bottom two teams Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer than United's 13 goals in the Premier League this season. Alejandro Garnacho is their top scorer with three goals.
It's no wonder Amorim has been linked with a move for one of his former Sporting players: former Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres, who tops the Champions League with five goalscorers this season.
But Amorim steers conversations away from these thoughts. He believes there is enough talent in the United squad to score more often.
“Of course there are concerns,” Amorim said. “You could feel that in the second half [against Ipswich] when we controlled the ball, but we weren't dangerous.
“I know the question is whether I need a new striker to score goals, but I think we need to improve as a team.”
“We have good players who can score so many goals. Rasmus.” [Hojlund] and Josh [Zirkzee] and Rashford will score more goals. Even Bruno [Fernandes] needs to score more goals. Amad [Diallo] must be better close to the target. All of these guys need to improve.
Amorim says he is looking forward to his first home game with United on Thursday in the Europa League against Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt.
Three days after complaining in Ipswich about the amount of media commitments he was dealing with, Amorim faced a packed press conference room at United's Carrington training ground on Wednesday.
At least this time there were no surprise distractions after Ipswich shareholder and pop superstar Ed Sheeran interrupted Amorim's post-match chat on Sky Sports in Ipswich.
The merits of Sheeran's intervention have been widely debated and the singer has apologized.
However, the matter was not a problem for Amorim.
“It was nothing,” said Amorim. “It was a simple question to say hello to one of the commenters.
“I was with Roy Keane. He's a real star. It was really fine.”
