CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn and Jey Uso

Past, present and future

Raw opening

  • The opening segment of Raw brilliantly tied together years-long storylines and past relationships

  • WWE hasn't ignored the past to shape future narratives

  • There are so many options for the future

This opening segment of Monday Night Raw worked so well because it seamlessly merged WWE's deep-rooted storylines with what drives each character today. For anyone who claims that WWE doesn't know how to tell a story, this paragraph completely contradicts that theory.

CM Punk's declaration that he was back on his way to a championship was reminiscent of what he said on the first day of his return. The Seth Rollins interruption reminded fans that there was unfinished business there. The inclusion of Jey Uso and Sami Zayn brought even more emotional weight, as Rollins' challenge to Zayn showed personal conflicts tied to her path to WWE and her previous interactions with Roman Reigns. And it's all brilliant was about Roman rulewho wasn't even there.

The segment effectively combined questions about loyalty and trust. Ironically, Punk was touted as the big draw for fans at the start of the show, and alongside Jey, he had one of the smaller roles in the segment. Few people probably noticed or cared about it, that's how effective it was.

The shocking betrayal of the new day

Kofi and Xavier's heartbreaking turn against Big E

New Day turns on Big E

  • Woods and Kingston broke Big E's heart

  • Her heel turn was masterfully executed and incredibly emotional

  • Fans could feel the pain in this segment

Due to Big E's shocking betrayal by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, two of his closest friends, this segment was one of the most emotional in WWE history. The audience expected a warm reunion – or, at worst, Kingston or Woods attacking each other – but instead the moment was a total shock, full of raw, intense drama.

The viciousness of two of WWE's nicest characters calling Big E weak for not returning from a broken neck sooner hit him hard. The betrayal was even more striking because it wasn't just a typical heel turn, but an attack on Big E's health and a career-threatening injury. Kingston and Woods were beyond selfish.

It was heartbreaking when Big E asked not to do it disband the groupwhich made the eventual connection between Kofi and Xavier even more devastating. They forgave each other with the commonality that they both felt like they were being shunned by their best friend. Fans quickly turned against Kingston and Woods, which would have been difficult in any other scenario.

WWE's decision to turn Gunther babyface is brilliant

Fans will rally behind a star they once hated

Balor vs. Günther

  • WWE turns Gunther into a babyface

  • He was attacked by Finn Balor

  • They meet in the main event on Saturday evening

Making Gunther a babyface is a smart move by WWE as it takes advantage of his natural charisma and dominance in the ring. His match against Dominik Mysterio showed his ability to connect with the audience, even if there is a portion of the crowd that loves Dom too.

Finn Bálor's post-match attack reinforced the idea that Günther is the good guy and sparked a future rivalry that could strengthen Günther's status as a fan favorite. As world heavyweight champion, Gunther's commitment allows WWE to explore new storylines, and with Bálor being the one to set his sights on him, he has a legitimate heel opponent for a big show in Saturday night's main event.

The audience will recognize Gunther as a fan favorite and this was a strong start.

Drew McIntyre's shocking return surprised everyone

Is his devastating attack on Sami Zayn just the first?

Drew McIntyre Sami Zayn

  • Sami Zayn believed that it was Rollins who attacked Jey Uso

  • Drew McIntyre attacked Zayn out of nowhere.

  • Was it McIntyre who attacked Jey and will he go through a list?

Drew McIntyre's surprise return to WWE with a devastating Claymore Kick against Sami Zayn was an exciting moment that immediately caught fans' attention. The question was, why was Zayn targeted? Some believe the answer is that McIntyre is take action against anyone who teamed up with CM Punk.

McIntyre's unexpected appearance has renewed interest in his character, raising questions about his motivations and whether he will go through a list of people he wants to get along with. His performance seemed to answer the question of who attacked Jey Uso backstage and brought an unexpected twist to Zayn's distrust of Seth Rollins. This return not only energized the plot but also ended the show on a major cliffhanger.
