England recall Alice Capsey to T20 squad for South Africa tour after initial omission

All-rounder Alice Capsey has been named in England's T20 squad for the tour of South Africa that begins on Sunday.

England said the 20-year-old had been called up “due to some minor injury concerns within the squad”.

Capsey was a Sensational omission from the T20 and Test teams for the tour when they were first announced earlier this month, but has been included in the one-day team.

She was part of the England team had to be eliminated in the group phase from the T20 World Cup in October.

Capsey failed to score 20 runs in any of her three innings at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

Since then she has played in the Women's Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades took a five-wicket haul against the Perth Scorchers before a first-ball duck in the same game this month.

England head coach Jon Lewis said last week that Capsey was “trending in the wrong direction” and that they “need a bit of a reboot”.

“We gave her very clear guidance on where to improve and how to play,” Lewis added.

“Alice is incredibly strong-willed and truly determined to be the best player she can be. I have no doubt that over time she will play many, many games for England across all formats.”

England will play three T20s, three ODIs and a four-day Test on their tour of South Africa.
