It's hard not to feel a little bad for Thompson. The third-year quarterback was back in action for the first time in nearly two years earlier this season, but his Week 3 start was a disaster that ended with a rib injury. He was allowed to see the field again on Sunday, but it only lasted two snaps.
Thompson's second play of the game was a failed handoff to Jaylen Wright, which led to a 63-yard fumble return touchdown for the Patriots. A huge mistake from Thompson? Not really. But it was his job to get the ball cleanly to Wright, and the mistake gave the Patriots life and sent Tagovailoa back into the game.
