There's no doubt that Drake Maye outplayed Caleb Williams on Sunday. Granted, it's been up and down for the Patriots' rookie quarterback, but it's been nothing short of disastrous for the Bears' rookie.
Williams was sacked nine times and hit 13 times by a Patriots defense that initially appeared to be languishing in last place in the league. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft isn't in the best of situations with questionable coaching while playing behind a poor offensive line. However, some of the responsibility falls squarely on his shoulders, particularly due to his poor pocket awareness and timing issues.
These are all solvable problems for the young quarterback, but he's clearly not playing at the level the Bears expect of him at this point. Maye, on the other hand, has to clean up the turnovers, but overall he was the more effective quarterback from the start. One could argue that his situation was even worse than what Williams is currently dealing with.
The Bears were founded with the thought that they would be ready to compete for a Super Bowl during Willimas' rookie season. Meanwhile, Maye was dropped in the middle of a complete rebuild for New England.
