Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks will not be on pitch count in NFL debut

The Carolina Panthers appear poised to announce their second-round pick in Week 12.

According to head coach Dave Canales, the team will not stick to a “pitch count” for rookie running back Jonathon Brooks, who will make his NFL debut next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 21-year-old rusher has been sidelined since then last November.

“I don’t think about the number of pitches” from Brooks on Friday afternoon. “He has to be ready to play a complete game. If something happened and Chuba [Hubbard] A shoelace broke and he needs to get that fixed for a second, JB will be ready to go.”

Brooks is expected to play No. 2 against Hubbard, who enters the weekend as the league's fourth-leading rusher. Hubbard also posted a career-high 153 rushing yards about the New York Giants.

That backup role was filled this season by veteran Miles Sanders. However, Sanders was the competition with an ankle injury.
