The Indianapolis that they signed defensive end Derek Rivers to the practice squad on Tuesday afternoon.
The reason for this move was New England from the Colts' practice squad and signed to their 53-man roster, opening up an opportunity for Indianapolis.
Rivers had spent most of this season on the Colts practice squad. He was released a week ago to make room at offensive tackle
Rivers was a third-round pick by New England in 2017. According to Pro Football Focus, he has played 336 defensive snaps in his career and another 119 on special teams.
He joined the Colts in the second half of training camp this summer as the team struggled with injuries on defense and was released due to downsizing before being signed to the practice squad. Rivers also spent time on the Colts' practice squad toward the end of the 2023 season.
His final regular-season NFL snaps came in 2021 with the Houston Texans. In 24 career games, Rivers recorded 14 pressures, four sacks and 27 total tackles, including five for a loss.
Bringing Rivers back into the mix bolsters the Colts' defensive depth on the team after losing Leo.
